Lafayette Hill is a small unincorporated community in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Located west of Chestnut Hill and south of Plymouth Meeting, Lafeyette Hill received it’s name from the French General Marquis de Lafayette, who stayed here during the American Revolutionary War.

May 29, 2016Prior to the decampment from Valley Force in 1778, George Washington, our first president, dispatched an estimated 2200 troops under command of the French General Marquis de Lafayette in order to defend from and conduct reconnaissance on the British army, which was garrisoned in Philadelphia over the winter. The two forces then had an engagement at nearby Barren Hill.
Lafayette Hill is an affluent area with many parks and nature reserves, as well as a wide variety of local shops and restaurants. It is also home to a prominent Jewish community. Close to Philadelphia and it’s surrounding suburbs, Lafayette Hill is a commuter town, with many traveling to Philadelphia for work each day.
